Stacksmith helps SMB owners adopt the right tech stack to automate the boring financial work and finally make sense of their numbers.
Most owners pick a side and live with the trade-off. We think there's a third one.
Seven components. Handcrafted to your business, Yours to keep.
A chart of accounts that fits your business, structured so the numbers will mean something to you.
Bank feeds, transaction rules, and reconciliation workflows that handle the repetitive work without you watching.
Your service software, payment processor, and payroll wired to the books so revenue lands clean.
A tailored-to-you output that shows the numbers you actually need to make decisions in a format you can understand.
A simple checklist for the close. What to do/not do, what to review, what to flag, so the books stay clean.
Walkthroughs that teach you the system in your own books, so you know what you're looking at without an interpreter.
A written record of how everything is wired, so you know the ins and outs, as well as when to call for help.
Four phases over four weeks. We build it, walk you through it, and stay long enough to make sure it holds. We only maintain it if you want us to.
We sit with you and the books — your current tools, your workflows, your pain points, your goals. We map what's working and what's not. No proposals yet.
We design and implement the system — accounting setup, automations, integrations, dashboard. Done in your books, not a demo environment.
We walk you through every piece of it. Live, recorded, and written. You leave knowing what to do every month and why.
We keep the system current as your business evolves. Office hours, a monthly check-in, and rule updates as new transactions surface. Close review for the first three months, quarterly after that.
We're a system builder, not a finance department. Stacksmith is a fit for some owners, and squarely not for others.
Most owners don't need a finance department. They need to know what's happening in the business. Where cash is going, whether revenue is growing, whether labor and materials are under control, what needs attention this month.
We build the system that makes those answers easy to see. Not dashboards as theatre. Not insights that need a translator. The kind of numbers a serious operator can look at on a Tuesday and act on by Wednesday.
Matt McMichen · Founder
Stacksmith was founded by Matt McMichen, a former CPA and exited small-business operator who built and scaled Margin CFO, a bookkeeping and fractional CFO firm serving startups and small businesses.
After years of helping companies make sense of their numbers — and using simple financial tools to run and successfully exit his own business — Matt started Stacksmith to help small business owners get the financial clarity they need without DIY-ing their finances or investing more than they can afford on traditional outsourcing.
Tell us a little about your SMB. We'll let you know whether Stacksmith is the right fit, and if it's not, we'll point you toward something that is.
